Sustatec PEEK*                        Click here to view data sheet

Key Characteristics
Highest continuous use temperature of any thermoplastic (480°F)
Outstanding balance of strength, toughness and chemical resistance
Excellent dimensional stability

PEEK offers the best balance of properties of all thermoplastic materials. PEEK-based products offer outstanding mechanical properties, chemical resistance and thermal performance. PEEK can be withstand long term continuous service temperatures of 480°F, as well as exposure to hot water or steam with low moisture absorption. Unfilled PEEK offers inherently good wear resistance, and modified grades are available for enhanced friction and wear properties. PEEK materials are inherently flame resistant and have low smoke emission. At approximately 30 times the cost of nylon, PEEK is one of the more costly plastic materials available, but it can often be used as a substitute to higher priced polyimide products such as Torlon®, offering improved machinability, dimensional stability and similar physical properties through much of its useful temperature range.

Unfilled PEEK is available in both black and natural colors. It exhibits excellent machinability and toughness.

30% Glass Reinforced PEEK provides enhanced stiffness and strength at elevated temperatures as well as improved dimensional stability (lower coefficient of thermal expansion).

30% Carbon Fiber Reinforced PEEK offers increased stiffness and compressive properties, along with improved wear characteristics and thermal conductivity. Addition of carbon fibers also yields electrical conductivity allowing for static dissipation.

Bearing Grade PEEK contains additives to optimize friction and wear characteristics. This product can be used in demanding bearing applications requiring temperature resistance and high loads and/or pressures. Bearing Grade PEEK possesses one of the highest LPV ratings of any thermoplastic compound.

Maximum Continuous Use Temperature (UL 746B RTI Mech with Impact)

PEEK exhibits the highest maximum continuous use temperature of common high performance engineering thermoplastics as shown in the graph above.

*PEEK is a tradename of Victrex plc.
